five fun facts...Kappa Alpha Theta edition!

So January 27th is Founder's Day for my sorority Kappa Alpha Theta, which is actually a fraternity because the word sorority hadn't been created way back in 1870. Tomorrow I am going to a Founder's Day brunch with my alumnae chapter. So these five fun facts come with some theta love...

1. I went through rush/recruitment the week before classes started at Alabama. I knew I wanted to be a part of a sorority. I tend to be pretty shy and quiet when I first meet people and I didn't know a lot of people that were going to Alabama so I thought it was be a great way to meet new people and make new friends. That was all true, but I never imagined how great it would all be. The friends I made through theta are amazing, wonderful, beautiful inside and out, smart, and a lot of other fabulous adjectives. I am blessed to call them my friends.

2. I lived in the theta house my sophomore, junior, and senior year. I LOVED living in the sorority house. Well at least for 90% of the time :) There are challenges that arise when you live with 30 other girls, but the fun times greatly out weigh the bad. I shared a room that was not much bigger than a closet with Meredith Franks. Meredith was a wonderful room mate because we were so similar, and I didn't realize prior to living with her just how similar we could be. We are both night owls. Early mornings do not work for us. We are habitually late to everything. We shared a love for chocolate, crocheting, Papa's College Custard, 17th floor, dancing, and quoting episodes of Friends. Meredith currently lives in NYC and I miss her. After living in an over sized closet I moved into a triple room, but I shared it with only one person, Rachel! Rachel is the smartest person I know. She is amazing! She is also one of the kindest and most caring people I know. The year of our big room was also the year the TV room moved into our room. It was very common for me to come back to my room after a class and find several people sitting on the beds watching TV. None of those people were Rachel, ha! Senior year I had my own room which was wonderful after sharing a room for so long, and luckily my former room mates were next door and across the hall.

3. I miss movie time in the TV room. A lot. I also miss the fun times not studying in the study room. Truth be told my GPA would have been a lot better if I spent a little less time in the TV room and more productive time in the study room. However if I had to do it again I wouldn't change a thing!

4. I miss our house mom, Ms. Barbra. She was wonderful and cared a lot about us. I miss the house staff Ms. Mary, Ms. Anita, and Terry. And not just because they cooked and cleaned for us. Although that was pretty cool, too. I miss Mr. Paul, too. I really missed him when I moved into my first apartment. I never realized how much safer I felt knowing that I could always walk downstairs and find him watching TV. He also would kill bugs for us. Forever grateful for that.

5. I love all the fun/silly/crazy memories I have from being in theta and living in the sorority house. We were big fans of pranks. We once found a bust in a closet and named it Caesar/Julius Caesar/Caesar Augustus. We would hide him in people's rooms, beds, bathrooms, showers, etc. So funny. We also took a very large amount of Mardi Gras beads and would bead someone's room. There would be beads everywhere! Shrimpy strikes again! I also liked to "borrow" Rachel's baby Jesus from her nativity scene. It was funny to see how long it would take her to realize he was missing. We had white boards on our doors and there were lots of silly messages left in regards to Jesus being kidnapped and missing.

I could go on and on and on about my love for my sorority and the fun memories of the theta house.
