it's been a while

I am a little surprised that I haven't blogged in three months. Yikes. So what has happened in the last three months...

I finished my fifth year of teaching. My first group of babies will be in the sixth grade this fall. Their last year in elementary school. I can't believe that I have been teaching that long. One of my favorite parts about teaching first grade is getting to watch them grow up not only in first grade, but throughout elementary school.     I have been reminded of thankful I am for my job. I can think of over half a dozen girls with elementary education majors without a job. I feel so bad for the situation they are in. Waiting is terrible feeling. Speaking of school, there are changes a coming. Our wonderful principal was a bit too wonderful and got moved to one of the middle schools. Many days were spent praying he wouldn't go. Then we started praying about this new person to lead our school. Last week, the school board hired someone new. Hopefully our school will continue to be the best in the city. Still praying for all involved during this transition. Teachers aren't often eager for change.

I have made some changes to my apartment. I rearranged a book case. I bought a new shower curtain. I also bought a beautiful marble cake stand. I can't wait to bake a cake to display on my cake stand. I have finally ended the great curtain search. I have a giant window in my sun room that is a little less than 100 inches wide. I wanted it to be a focal point of the living room/sun room. I wanted it to be a print. I wanted it to bring in a new color. I love the color red. I have a lot of things in red, but I felt that it was a bit theme-ish with all that red. So I added some green and gray to the room. I searched for months trying to find curtains. I was worried I would have to buy 4 panels to just cover the window. I searched stores and websites. I even began to look at fabric to sew my own curtains. It finally occurred to me to look on etsy. Bingo! I found curtains that will fit the window perfectly. They are navy and white in a chevron print. Now I am stuck waiting for my custom made curtains to arrive from Florida. I have really grown to love decorating. I also finally chose a new tv stand. I didn't care for the one I had. I wanted something a bit more grown up and not so poor college graduate. I also didn't care to look at my dvd's. I wanted them behind closed wooden doors. I got my handy dandy friend Caleb to assemble the tv stand while home from Auburn to take the praxis exam.

Yay! So glad to hear what you've been up to a little bit! I hope we all love the new principal. And post a picture of your cake when you make it!;)
